Shake it Up!

Stamp Off New Logo

It’s another Stamp Off Friday! This week is a shaker card challenge.

shakerCardChallenge

I have to say, I don’t do well with shaker cards. I just – don’t. So – since Jackie and Susan both decided to skip the vellum last week, I decided to skip the shaker card this week. Because, honestly, that’s how we roll. I love those two! So here’s my card.

Cups & Kettle, Stampin' Up!, Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog

I’M KIDDING! I do have a shaker card. A few months ago, we had a card candy shoe box swap at our demo meeting. The teapot card was Sandy’s candy. Cute, right? I added some of the Playful Palette designer series paper stack and a sentiment to complete the card. Blushing Bride is one of the colors in the Playful Palette stack, and it goes surprisingly well with Melon Mambo. Sadly, the Cups & Kettle framelits are retiring and the framelits are sold out and no longer available. So if you love them and didn’t get them, let this be a lesson. Order early or pay exorbitant prices on ebay later. You may be able to talk your local demonstrator into selling hers at a discount. Most of the ones I know who have this set, though, aren’t selling it.

.Christy’s card candy was a shaker card, so here’s my actual card for the challenge.

Stampin' Up!, Pictogram Punches

How cute is this? We used the Pictogram Punches stamp set (retiring) for the banner with It’s My Party designer series paper (retiring) for the rosette. The shaker star was cut from Blackberry Bliss card stock (retiring), window sheets (not retiring!) and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (not retiring!) using the Stars Framelits Dies (not retiring!). The confetti in the shaker was created by punching Melon Mambo (not retiring!) and Blackberry Bliss (still retiring) card stock with the Confetti Stars Border Punch (not retiring!). The Dazzling Diamonds punched star in the banner uses the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (sadly retiring. And I just found my star punch, after months of searching. It was in a bag of staples. Why???)

The Triple Banner Punch is also not retiring, but I’m pretty sure we notched the banner using Paper Snips. Simply cut a slit in the center of the right edge, then start at one corner and clip to the top of the slit. Repeat for the other side. Easy!

Oh – we used strips of foam adhesive from one of the Paper Pumpkin kits for the shaker card. But – GOOD NEWS! You’re going to be able to order foam adhesive strips in the new catalog. Plus I got to preorder a stamp set and punch that make creating shaker cards even easier. So it’s going to be Shaker Gone Wild around here for awhile. You’ve been warned.

I decided to adhere the candy to yet another piece of the new Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack. This one is Sweet Sugarplum (as is the card base). How awesome does Melon Mambo look with that? Who would have guessed? I’m finding that some of the colors I didn’t use a lot – Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry, to name two – are working really well with the new In Colors, so I’m thinking I’m going to spread my wings a bit this year. Yay!

Check out what Jackie & Susan did with this challenge. And hopefully, those two actually did the challenge this time. I’m kidding, of course. I always feel like I’m the weak link in this trio. They’re so creative and artistic. And I love that we can flaunt the rules a bit when we need to. Trust me, I’m going to have to flaunt at times! Because creativity and fun are way more important than sticking to the rules. Actually, isn’t creativity kind of like breaking the rules?

If you get a chance, give the shaker challenge a whirl. You can post it in the comments on any of our web sites. We’d love to see your creations!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day.

Your post was too funny, Buffy. I was reading along and thought, oh she didn’t do a shaker card. It made me laugh. I was thinking we needed to start having deeper conversations about our challenges. Of course, then I kept reading. Beautiful!

Excellent fake-out Buffy. You had me going because I couldn’t imagine you skipping the whole challenge. Great card by the way. I would have never thought of a star shaker card, but it works so great when you can stuff the star with stars!!

You had me going for a minute, because I was reading your post in my email, and had to scroll down to see your shaker card! 🙂 Great shaker card, Buffy, and I can’t wait for the new foam strips to make them easier to build.
