Those *#&% Apple Blossoms

Botanical Builder Framelits, Stampin' Up!

A year or so ago, I posted about picking up six ginormous foam board apple blossoms we use as decorations for our annual Apple Blossom Festival Ladies’ Luncheon. For the past three years, I’m the one who has had to drag them back and forth from storage to our office and then to the luncheon – and then back to the office and then back to storage for another year. I know what you’re thinking. Why don’t you skip the office step and go straight to the luncheon and then straight back to storage? Yes, that would be lovely. But the storage location isn’t open before the luncheon – or after it’s over. And since no one works there full time any more, we have limited access. So we have to grab them when we can. And today was that day.

These blossoms are about five feet in diameter. Perhaps I’m exaggerating a bit. They’re close to 4-5 feet long and probably 2-3 feet high. Did I mention they’re foam? And it’s spring. Springtime in the Shenandoah Valley is usually breezy. (Yeah – you get where I’m going with this, don’t you?)

When you carry a huge, foam apple blossom out to your car or into your office on a breezy day, it turns into a propeller. I thought I was going to pull a Flying Nun over the back field. These blossoms are also old. I’m not sure when they were made, but I’m thinking it was over 20 years ago. Even though they’ve been patched, repainted, and patched again, they’re getting a little brittle. Brittle propellers do not work well in the wind.

I struggled today to keep from losing my calm and saying something or acting in a way that could get me excluded from the “Ladies'” luncheon, and I have to say, I’m very proud of myself. I did, however, give a huge sigh of relief when they were finally inside and out of the wind.

To commemorate the event, I created my annual Apple Blossom Card when I got home.

Botanical Builder Framelits, Stampin' Up!

This was quite simple. I die-cut the flowers and leaves using the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies. I wanted just a tinge of pink, so I sponged a little Blushing Bride over the petals. Then I simply layered them to some English Garden designer series paper and Blushing Bride and Mint Macaron card stock.

This could be a birthday card, but it may end up as a Mother’s Day, thank you, or even sympathy card. I’ll keep it sentiment-free until I see what I need.  Oh – and I just realized I made this for one of our B, S, & J “Stamp-off” challenges. Oops. This is the second one I’ve made for our April 8 challenge. Well, they say, “The third time’s the charm,” right?

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!

lol – great card and great story! I shouldn’t laugh, I know, but it was funny – hehe. Good job, Buffy.

Shenandoah Valley? My daughter and SIL live on the mountains near Harper’s Ferry. (I’m trying to recall if we’ve had this conversation before…?)

And lastly, I think I’ll go casing today – your card is my goal.

Thanks, Brenda! Glad you got a chuckle. It was very funny – but not as hilarious as the last time when I tried to stuff them into my mid-size car. This time, I took “The Tank,” so it worked a little better. We are about 30 minutes from Harper’s Ferry. It’s one of our favorite places to visit. It’s gorgeous there!

Thanks for my morning laugh, Buffy!! What a great visual – and here I thought I was the only one who remembered The Flying Nun! 🙂 I’m sure you would’ve been forgiven for some ‘colourful’ language, wrangling those larger than life cherry blossoms 😉

You are so funny!!! Your blossom card is nice. But the mental image of you – wrestling gigantic styro apple blossoms in 15 mph wind gusts will remain with me always!!!!
