Another Hop with Friends

Stamp Off New Logo

Jackie & Susan have been on a roll. They’ve already thrown out four challenges in the past two weeks. Yikers! I need to come up with something quickly if I’m going to be part of the creative trio.

In case you missed it, two of my dearest Stampin’ up! demonstrator friends and I decided to give each other challenges every now and then to keep our creativity going. Sometimes things get busy and life interferes with art, so you just sit and stare at a blank piece of card stock, wondering what you’re going to do with it. It really helps to have a “jumping off” place!

This time, we have another sketch challenge from Jackie. I love Jackie’s sketches, because they’re fun as well as challenging. Here’s her sketch.

Stampin' Up!, Sketch Challenge, Jackie & Susan How fun is this? I love the two circles with the square and rectangular panels. The circles soften the edges of the rectangles.

I decided to make a one-layer card. I guess technically it’s five layers, because of the added elements. I thought about a layer of designer series paper or another color of card stock, but I really liked the simplicity of the sketch, so I kept it to just a card base and the sketch elements.

Here’s my rendition.

Stampin' Up!, Sketch Challenge, You've Got This

And – oh, look! It’s a double challenge, because there’s no Blushing Bride on this card at all. None. Not even a hint. I chose Wisteria Wonder, Sahara Sand, and Soft Sky for my primary color scheme. Since the main image is a flower, I added a tiny bit of Pear Pizzazz and Crushed Curry.

Here are the details.  First, I had to choose a set, so I pulled out a set from the Stampin’ Up! Annnual Catalog – You’ve Got This. That’s the name of the set; I’m not saying you already have this. (Although, you should!) Funny story – I didn’t originally purchase this one, because I thought, “Hey, I have enough flowers and backgrounds.” But, obviously, I changed my mind – mostly because of the sayings in the set.

The background is Sahara Sand on Soft Sky. The flower is stamped in Versamark on Very Vanilla, then embossed with clear powder. I took a sponge dauber and sponged Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzazz and Wisteria Wonder over the flower, then cut it out. Easy!

I stamped the butterfly from Papillon Potpourri in Soft Suede on the Soft Sky panel, then stamped it again on Very Vanilla with Sahara Sand. The coordinating Elegant Butterfly punch makes it a snap to “cut out.” I don’t mind fussy cutting, but the butterfly is so detailed around the bottom, it would be a little stressful – and these challenges are supposed to be for fun. So three cheers for the punches!

After I layered it to the card with a strip of Timeless Elegance designer series paper, I added a little Wink of Stella (WOS) to the flower. Stampin' Up!, You've Got This, Sketch ChallengeAfter I took the photo, I added a little more WOS to the butterfly and even more to the flower. It really gives it a dewy look. If you haven’t used Wink of Stella, you need to add it to your next order. We offer it in gold and clear. It adds sparkle and shine, but dries very quickly and is virtually mess-free. (That’s a plus for us glitter lovers who live with people who aren’t quite as fond of glitter.)

I didn’t add a sentiment to this one. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a birthday or some other occasion. Sadly, I need a sympathy card, and I think this would work nicely.

Take a peek and what Jackie and Susan made. If you’d like to play along, we’d love to see your creations! You can add the link to your project or even a thumbnail to the comments on Jackie’s, Susan’s, or my blog if you’d like!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!

Buffy, this is such a wonderful card. I love the colors of that flower and the dewy look. And then to fussy cut it makes a spectacular image. Best of all, I like the interpretation of the sketch, because I would never have thought to translate those circles into fussy cut images. So wonderful!!
