Good Morning!

This is for my friend Darrah – “Goooooood Mornin’! Good Mornin! We’ve talked the whole night through! Good mornin’, good mornin’ to you!”  Ah, Singin’ in the Rain with Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. And did I mention Gene Kelly? I think he was my first movie crush. I’m not sure if Anchors Aweigh or Brigadoon was my first Gene Kelly movie, but the first time I saw him, I was in love.

I’m not a morning person. I don’t think I’ve ever been a morning person. But these days…well, Wesley is working nights, so he’s asleep by 7 a.m., and Steph has to go to work at 8. So I’m up at 6:30-ish so I can pick up Miss Amelia so her mommy can get to work on time. And even though I still don’t like getting up at 0’dark thirty, I do love seeing that little face in the morning.

Before I see her, though, I see the sunrise. Yep. The sunrise. Before I became a grandma, I probably saw less than 10 sunrises in my life. And most of those were because I had stayed up all night. But now? Now I’m heading east around sunrise time, so I see this.

I’m not sure I captured it perfectly. But on my way to the kids’ house, there are lots of trees and hills and “nightness.” And right above it all is this gorgeous color – all fresh and new and full of promise. So I totally get morning people now. Each new day is a new opportunity, a new beginning. It doesn’t matter what happened before; you can start fresh today.

I used an old Stampin’ Up! favorite for this card – Lovely as a Tree. Our CEO and Co-founder, Shelli Gardner, mentioned at an event that she didn’t think this set would ever retire. It’s been around longer than I have been a demonstrator. And one day, it may retire. In fact, I’m hoping for a bigger evergreen, and a larger “all season” tree. But for now, it’s still one of my favorites!

I stamped the various trees over and over in Basic Black archival ink. Then I sponged the midline with a little more black ink, and sponged a “sunrise” at the top. Easy!

If I was making a card to depict today’s drive, there would be snow. Although – a lot of the snow has melted in the past several days. (I love living in the South!!) Seriously – I can’t believe how much of last weekend’s 36″ has melted. It’s amazing.

Hope you enjoy a new day – full of opportunities and promise! Be sure to check in tomorrow for a fun “challenge” hop. A couple of my friends and I are challenging each other with colors, sketches, techniques, and products. You’re going to love them – and they’re a great “inspiration boost!” It’s been hard not to post the card I made for the first one. I’ll just give you a little hint … Birthday Blooms!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!

  1. Mom says:

Oh, Buffy – your subtle, but vibrant colors are perfect – and so real that I had to convince myself you hadn’t attached a photo to the card. I would like to enlarge this to frame. When I showed it to your Dad, he went into bragging rights over how talented you are. Well done!!
