It’s Watercooler Wednesday! Our challenge this week is a color/technique challenge. You can make anything you want, as long as you use the “Ombre” effect. Fun, right? I love this tecnhique, and I use it a lot, especially on cards for Stephanie.
Here’s my card.
I used Watercolor Paper for this card, because it works really, really well with watercoloring. Which is probably why they call it “Watercolor Paper,” right?
I simply squeezed various stamp pads to get a little ink in the lids, then used an aqua painter to paint the paper. I started with the darkest and kept moving up, overlapping colors until I finished with the lightest color.
Now, you’re probably wondering what colors I used, aren’t you? I tried a lot of different colors, but I wasn’t really happy with them until this card. They look mostly yellow here, but it’s more orangey at the bottom in real life. I used (from the bottom up) Cajun Craze, Tangelo Twist, Pumpkin Pie, Delightful Dijon, Crushed Curry, Daffodil Delight. One fun thing about the Watercolor Paper is you can add more water to lighten up the ink if it’s too dark in places. And the ink blends very well with water on this paper. (You can click on the “Supply List” or click on the image in the table below to order it!)
You really need to wait until the water all dries before you continue. I didn’t, so I got a little bumpy limb on the tree, but I kind of like it. The tree limb and owl are from Among the Branches, a new set in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog, and the sentiment is from Happy Happenings. I used the new Basic Black Archival ink to stamp the images and sentiment.
I thought the card needed something else, so I added a few wooden stars from the Hooray, It’s Your Day card kit from last year’s catalog. Wood just didn’t seem to convey nighttime, though, so I covered them with 2-way glue and dipped them in Gold Stampin’ Glitter. (This is another product you really, really need! I love the gold and silver glitter!)
Now – give the challenge a try. Add your card to the challenge blog, but make sure it links back to your blog or a public forum – like splitcoaststampers.com. Tag it with WWC34 to make it easier to find later! If you follow all the rules on the challenge blog (and they’re pretty easy) and your card is chosen as the favorite, you’ll get to put our snazzy new badge on your blog or web site!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
