I CASEd this card from Julie Gearinger. Her card was so lovely, and there wasn’t a lot anyone could do to improve on it. It was so lovely, in fact, that I saw a lot of “copies” of her card on Pinterest. Yes, I’ll admit it. My stamping mojo was hiding again. I had been working on projects for other things, and realized I still had to design cards for class this week. And my brain said, “Nope. Not going to help any more.” So – Pinterest to the rescue.
The first thing I did was take an aqua painter with some Marina Mist and color the bottom right corner of the Whisper White card stock. And, you know, I bought some of the thick Whisper White card stock, which would probably stand up to watercoloring a bit better. Have I opened it? No. Maybe I’ll crack it open before class this week! After I got a good layer of Marina Mist, I added a little Soft Sky to pull the blue out a little more.
After the ink dried (and that’s very important, unless your creative juices are heading in the blurred, vintage watercolor direction – which is totally fine!) I added some Delightful Dijon and Tip Top Taupe splatters from Awesomely Artistic in the top left and bottom right corners.
I stamped the bird from An Open Heart in the new Basic Black Archival ink (love it!!), then stamped it again on a scrap of Whisper White. I colored the image on the scrap with Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake, Tip Top Taupe, and Delightful Dijon markers, then cut out the body.
The ferns behind and around the bird on the card are from Awesomely Artistic. I inked the stamp one time in Mossy Meadow, and just kept stamping until the ink was gone. Then I colored the “card bird’s” feet with Delightful Dijon and layered the cut out bird over the one on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Whew. (It’s actually a lot quicker to do than to write about.)
Finally, I stamped the sentiment in Mossy Meadow along the bottom edge. Again, this is a very simple layout, using only a Marina Mist card and a Whisper White layer, plus the scrap for the bird. While it’s not “fancy,” it is less expensive to mail!
The sentiments in An Open Heart are perfect for when you need to send a card to someone going through a tough time. With a different sentiment, thought, this card would also work for a birthday or a beautiful thank you card.
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
