I love to play with challenges, and the Fab Friday one is always fun. A new challenge posts every other Friday, so you have lots of time to work on it. Since I know I have two weeks, I usually put it off and then forget to enter, so this time I started early.
Aren’t those colors gorgeous? I love the rich colors in last year’s In Color Collection. Here’s my card for the challenge.
It was impossible to get all the shimmer and glitz in the picture, but, trust me, there’s glitz! I wanted to try some old techniques that I was reminded of last week, so I clear embossed the flower from You’ve Got This on Whisper White card stock and used Mossy Meadow and Blackberry Bliss classic ink with sponge daubers to color the flower. I added just a tiny bit of Crushed Curry to the flower center.
I stamped the background image in Lost Lagoon on Pool Party cardstock. It seemed a little drab, so I die cut it with a Deco Label framelit, then cut the next larger size from Blackberry Bliss card stock. It still seemed a little plain, though.
And then I had one of those “aha” moments. I had just gotten some of the Metallic Foil Doilies. We used most of the gold ones at classes last week, but I still had lots of silver, and it worked perfectly with this! And then it just kept rolling.
I embossed the Pool Party layer with the Brick Wall embossing folder, and used a technique Brandi Barnard demonstrated at Convention last week. Take the tip off Dazzling Details (I used the silver sparkle) and “splotch” about a dime-sized amount in a container (one of the Stampin’ Up! accessory containers works nicely). Then mix in some water with an aqua painter and splatter over the card stock. When you sprinkle the glitter on it, the glue in the Dazzling Details holds the glitter. Mine is double silver since I used the silver Dazzling Details and silver glitter.
In case you’re wondering what “splotch” means, it’s kind of the sound you hear in your head when the Dazzling Details comes out of the bottle. It doesn’t pour or drip. It splotches.
I wanted to tie silver metallic ribbon around the flower, so I began an intensive search since it wasn’t in its proper location. (Did I mention we inherited a cat who loves shiny things? I’m missing a LOT of sequins and ribbon and other shiny accessories.) While I was searching, I found some old Paper Pumpkin components – a white banner and a Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper banner. I like doing things the easy way – and having these pre-cut was a lot easier than dragging out banner dies or cutting one with scissors. (No, I don’t have the banner punch yet, but it’s on my list.)
I stamped the sentiment on the white banner with Lost Lagoon ink and sponged more Pool Party over it. And since I couldn’t find my silver ribbon (darned cat), I used the bow from the Mini Treat Bag thinlits with some silver foil. Fortunately, the cat hadn’t found the silver foil yet.
Before adding all the layers to the card, I splattered a little Mossy Meadow over the brick wall and added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels. Like there wasn’t enough glitz and shine, right? But, hey – I have to use them before the cat does. I know when we move or buy new furniture, we’re going to find her little stash of shiny embellishments.
Now – go to the Fab Friday challenge blog and try your hand at the colors. The designers are amazing, so you’ll get lots of inspiration.
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
