Got your attention, didn’t I? No, the butterfly isn’t drunk, and it isn’t smooshed. I used a technique that I call “Watercolor Smash” for this little guy (or girl. How do you tell with butterflies? No, I don’t really want to know.).
I saw a card like this on Pinterest. My friend Liz pinned it from someone who got the idea from someone else, so I have no idea who the original idea came from. I used a different butterfly and different techniques for mine, though.
First, I die cut the Butterflies Thinlits from Whisper White card stock. Easy. Then I scribbled on a window sheet with Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, Delightful Dijon, and Island Indigo Stampin’ Write Makers. Then I spritzed it with water until all the colors ran and smashed another piece of Whisper White card stock over top of it.
That gave me a nice base, but it wasn’t bold enough to suit me, so I used wadded up plastic wrap to pounce the same colors (minus the Island Indigo) over top. Much better!
I layered the watercolored/smashed card stock behind the card and glued the die-cut butterfly back in place. After stamping a sentiment from Lots of Thanks and layering it to a Mint Macaron card, I was finished. And, oops – Lots of Thanks retired. I wanted to use Another Thank You, but it was in a different area of my craft room, so I grabbed the other thanks set instead. You’d think I would have figured that out when the stamp I was using was rubber and not photopolymer. It’s been that kind of a day, let me tell you!
This really was a fairly quick card to make. It took about 15 minutes, and that included searching through my box of dies for the butterflies. And I knew it was going to be a thank you card for my friend Susan who loves butterflies, so selecting the die-cut was also simple. Susan actually doesn’t like butterflies at all. Or sock monkeys. What’s wrong with that woman? One day, I’ll send her a sock monkey chasing butterflies! I’ll be she’ll be thrilled. (I love you, Susan!)
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
Such a happy card! Another card for me to CAS. Thanks for posting.

As I remember, Susan doesn’t like roadkill (grunge) either, so a smashed sock monkey should be perfect.
