Watercooler Challenge Sunday

Today’s another Watercooler Challenge day. Here is the wonderful sketch challenge from Stefanie.

Stefanie's Sketch

Fun, right? Here’s my take on the sketch.

An Open Heart, Stampin' Up!

This almost got posted a few days ago, but then I realized it worked great for the sketch – and I liked it better than the card I had made for the challenge. Even the knot on the linen thread counts as my embellishment on the left.

I used An Open Heart for this, with some Sahara Sand lace trim, linen thread and a Tea Lace paper doily. It’s harder to see, but I also used a stamp from Work of Art behind the bird. Before I attached it to the card, I sponged the doily with a little Crumb Cake ink. It looked a little out of place before I roughed it up a bit.

I added a little pearl to the bird for his (her?) eye. Since I didn’t have any permanent markers, I left it pearly, and now it looks like he/she is blind. Hmmm…I’ll have to work on that one when I get home.

Speaking of birds…Mike and I have been by the pool every day, and there’s a blackbird that has decided the swimming pool is his personal bird bath. (Yes, I’m fairly sure it’s a “he.”) He sits on the ledge and flips water all over himself. This takes about 10 minutes, at least. I’m sure it feels good to be clean! Then he goes to the fence and shakes and flips and fluffs his feathers for about 20 minutes until he’s dry again. He’s done this every day.  It’s so cute. It reminds me of how our little Walter looked after a bath. I still miss that little guy. And Hoss too, of course. Mike was just commenting about how the house was  different when Hoss was there. He had a calming presence, and everything was peaceful.  Not that it’s chaotic without him. It’s still pretty quiet. But just different. He had this “Zen” quality that’s really hard to explain. (Some of my friends who were greeted by the big, black Rottweiler may disagree with the “peace and calm” part.)

So back to the card…absolutely nothing on it is retiring – so it will all be available for you to purchase for the next year.

In other news – we’ll be home today. Aside from a little problem with the a/c unit, it’s been a lovely vacation. Since we arrived on a Saturday, nothing could be done to the a/c until Monday. And, frankly, we didn’t really notice it until Sunday night. It was warm, but we’re on the 8th floor, and, well, it’s hot here. The owner of the unit immediately called a repairman who showed up early Tuesday morning. So now it’s nice and cool.

Enough rambling. You’ll see several other cards using the sketch challenge on the challenge blog, so you’ll have lots of inspiration. Give it a try!  Post your card to the challenge blog (with a link back to your blog, web site, or a site like splitcoaststampers) and your card could be the Watercooler fave! If it’s chosen, you’ll get to post our badge on your blog or web site. Be sure to tag it WCC24.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy.  Have a wonderful day.

What a gorgeous vintage look Miss Buffy. Going into my CASE file now that I have the stamp set. That little bird really looks lively enough to want to jump into the branches stamped behind it.
