Butterfly Basics

One of our friends had a death in her family recently.  Sadly, it was her adult son, and no mother should lose a child, no matter what age.

I made this card for her using some of the new products from the Occasions catalog.  There’s a gorgeous set called “Butterfly Basics,” and coordinating “Butterflies” thinlits.  Only one of the thinlits matches the butterfly in the set, but you can use the other two as layers – which is what I did.

Stampin' Up!, Occasions catalog, Butterfly BasicsI stamped the ferns in Wild Wasabi ink.  Then I stamped the flowers in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Blendabilities.  I used Daffodil Delight, Wisteria Wonder and the new Wild Wasabi and Pink Pirouette.

I stamped the Swallowtail stamp on vellum cardstock in Wisteria Wonder ink, cut it out.  and layered one of the die cut butterflies, also from vellum cardstock, over it.  I love the way it turned out.   One of the other Occasions products is the Sahara Sand trim peeking out from behind the butterfly.  The sentiment is a retired set – “Brighter Tomorrow.”

You can order from the Occasions catalog beginning January 6.  And that means you only have a few more weeks to order from the Holiday catalog!  Don’t miss the Holiday Home and White Christmas sets – among other products.

One last word about the thinlits dies.  The butterflies are very intricate and detailed, so you’ll probably need to use a shim with them.  Play around with how thick it needs to be with your machine.  My first try didn’t cut well at all, so I added a shim.  It was a little better, but still didn’t cut all the way through.  I added another layer and – perfect!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy.  Have a wonderful day!

That is a lovely card, Buffy. It would be good to have a few of these on hand. I love the soft, well-coordinated colors.
