IT’S APPLE BLOSSOM TIME
We have an Apple Blossom festival each spring in the Shenandoah Valley. It began as a celebration of the apple industry here, but now it’s just a good excuse to party. I belong to the Virginia Horticultural Society auxiliary, and we host a luncheon each year. It’s very elegant, and one of the few non-alcohol events of the festival. We have between 400-500 women who attend, and they enjoy wonderful door prizes (enough for about 1 out of 4 people to go home with a prize), table favors for everyone, and a glimpse of some of the celebrities who are here.
Our luncheon is very special to me, because it focuses more on the apple industry, since it’s hosted by apple growing families. After we give some money to the Apple Blossom Festival, we deposit the balance of our profits into our scholarship fund. Each year, we give two $1000 scholarships to horticulture majors at VA Tech, and this is a major fundraiser for the scholarship fund.
This year, my Rachel is the decorating committee chair. She’s doing a fabulous job, and it’s going to be absolutely beautiful! My job on the committee was to make 500 tissue paper flowers to decorate chairs and some rosettes for a banner. I finished this morning! I used the Big Shot with the Floral Frames collection framelits and Fun Flowers die. It didn’t exactly make the process simple and quick, but it was a lot simpler and quicker than it could have been. Because, let’s face it – 500 tissue paper flowers is a lot of tissue paper. The last 80 still need to be fluffed up, but I can do that while I’m watching NCIS tomorrow night.
Now I’m off to school and then the Stampin’ Up! catalog premiere tonight! I can’t wait. Mom & I are going to Alexandria, so it will be a fun “girls’ night out.”
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
