I love the Stampin’ Up! watercolor pencils. I have heard lots of comments – “I wish they came in all our colors,” or “I wish there were better greens.” But, really, the quality is very nice, and they blend so well, there’s no reason you can’t get any color (including green) that you want. They’re lots of fun to use, and it’s so easy to get professional results. And at $19.95 for 24 (101879, p. 157), they’re very economical.
I decided to use them on a Christmas card using Watercolor Winter from the Holiday catalog. I stamped the images in StazOn, since I was using Naturals Ivory card stock. The naturals card stock works wonderfully with any watercolor medium we sell.
The colors in the poinsettias are so rich – much better in person than in the photo. I just outlined the image with the pencils, then blended with an aqua painter. Easy!
The sentiment oval is stamped in Riding Hood Red with a “Jan Tink Ruffle” made from River Rock card stock around it. It just needed something behind it, and I didn’t want to use Riding Hood Red or Always Artichoke – and definitely not More Mustard. So River Rock seemed to fit. I just punched a strip of card stock using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, then ran it through my crimper several times. To add it to the oval, just tape up the back of the oval and wrap the scalloped piece around it. I punched another oval and glued it to the back, just to help the ruffle stay in place.
So dig out your watercolor pencils – or order them from me if you don’t have any. I found a comparison of several brands of pencils, and ours were right at the top of the list. You get top quality at a great price. Try them out!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy, and have a wonderful day!
