Paisley Florets a la Jan Tink

In previous posts, I've talked about my son Jon's girlfriend Rachel.  She's a true artist, and just a beautiful young woman, inside and out.  Over the past month, I discovered that she's got more strength and depth than most people twice her age.  Her mom checked herself into the hospital for bronchitis, and due to complications with meds, she passed away several weeks later.  It was a huge shock to all of us.

Rachel has three uncles who are scattered around the globe, and they were here for her the past two weeks or so.  But for the beginning of the traumatic time, she was all alone except for friends – who were wonderful, but not like family you can lean on to help with decisions.  As I watched her deal with everything life threw at her, I was amazed at her maturity and strength.

Last night was Donna's (her mom's) funeral.  Or maybe I should say, "Going home party."  I'm sure Donna was dancing in heaven, and very proud of her two girls, Rachel & Katie.  There was lots of music from several musicians (Donna loved music), tributes from her daughters and many friends and family members about what an incredible woman she was, and … dancing.  Yep.  There was dancing.  I could almost see her face light up with that beautiful smile when the girls talked friends into dancing with them.  God did turn their crying into dancing!  I know there will be times ahead when they're sad and when many, many people miss Donna.  She's left a huge hole in many hearts.  But her daughters proved last night that Donna left two young women who will make their mark on the world, just as their mom did.

So here's the card I made for Rachel.  I almost used the saying from the Fabulous Florets stamp set, "The earth laughs in flowers," because that reminds me of Donna.  No one talks about Donna ever being sad, but only her huge smile and capacity to love, even when things looked the darkest. "Thinking of you," though, fit better in the frame and seemed a little more fitting for the card.

This is a Janine Tinklenberg layout.  I changed colors, paper, stamp set…everything but the basic layout.  I love her "shabby chic" style.  The Four Frames set and Paisley Petals paper will be in the new Idea Book & Catalog in July.  I can't wait to see the new stamp sets and accessories this year.  Less than two months!!  I can't believe it's almost "new catalog time" already.

Have a wonderful day – and thanks for stopping by.

Buffy this card is beautiful and I’m sure she loved it. So sorry about Rachel’s mom, such a sad, sad story.
I lost both my parents, but both were ill and we had time to prepare… when’s it’s unexpected, it’s must be twice as hard to get your hands around it. So sad. Prayers to both girls go out for their loss.
PS: thanks for leaving the sweet comment on my blog. I just found yours and will be back soon. Hugs. diane
