Mother of Pearl

I couldn't help myself.  The Stampin' Success magazine posted online today, and I had to take a peek.  I'd rather have it in my hands and see the articles and projects, but sometimes it just doesn't get to this coast in a timely manner.  And since I knew there would be more sneak peeks from the new Summer mini catalog, I had to take a look.

Usually, they show a new technique each month.  This one isn't really new; we did it years ago with another product, and then we did it last summer with the shimmer paint.  The technique is "Faux Mother of Pearl," and the card was just so elegant and pretty, I copied it.

Isn't that pretty?  I added a little extra "Diana Gibbs Long Tail Jewelry Tag" to the medallion, but other than that, it's a copy.  I really wasn't a huge fan of Baja Breeze until this year.  There's something about Baja Breeze and Rose Red that I like a lot!

The technique is super simple.  You scrunch up some plastic wrap, dip it in Frost White shimmer paint, and scrape off the excess.  (I didn't do a great job of scrapng the excess.  It was a little thick in some places, which is ok – but hard for the stamped image to show up.)  Then you tap the painted plastic wrap on Glossy White card stock, leaving some areas white.  After it dries (and it dries really quickly), sponge or bray ink over the panel.  Then you can stamp on it; I used StazOn since I wanted to watercolor the blossoms.

I put a little Smooch paint (the illuminating top coat) over the medallion, and after I took the photo, I added a little punched flower and pearl.  This will be the other card I'll present for the Spring Fling.

Here are the supplies.  Have a wonderful day, and thanks for stopping in!
